Military Medal 'For conspicuous gallantry in the field. East of St Julien on the 4th instant this NCO was in charge of a Lewis gun section which suffered severely at the very commencement of the attack. With two men left he attacked an enemy machine gun emplacement the crew of which were inflicting severe casualties on our men, he succeeded in quieting the machine gun and subsequently he and his two men accounted for the crew of same. He then assisted in the capture of Aviatic Farm and subsequently advancing further assisted in the killing of a garrison of another strong point. His work was of a very high standard and was carried out regardless of personal safety.'
