Found guilty, 2 September 1916, of being absent without leave, 30-31 August 1916: forfeited 1 day's pay. Proceeded overseas to France, 26 September 1916; joined 1st Bn, Canterbury Infantry Regiment, in the field, 13 October 1916. Found guilty, 9 January 1917, of (1) being absent without leave from Tattoo Roll Call; (2) neglect of Government Property, viz. losing one greatcoat, value £1-11-3: forfeited 7 days' ordinary pay, and ordered to pay the cost of a replacement greatcoat. Found guilty, 9 April 1917, of being absent without leave, 1.30 pm-9 pm, 23 March 1917: awarded 14 days' Field Punishment No 2, and forfeited 1 day's pay under Royal Warrant.
