'For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty in the field at Briastre on 12th October 1918. This NCO was in charge of a platoon during the operations on this date, and by skilful handling of his platoon, was enabled to push forward from a close support position at Belle Vue to the front line of posts on the railway line rendering much needed assistance to another platoon in consolidating the line, pushing forward patrols, and what was of greatest importance at a critical time, getting touch with troops on either flank. He handled his platoon with coolness and skill throughout.'
