Military Medal 'Messines Offensive: 7th to 9th June 1917. This man when all the officers and NCOs of his platoon had become casualties took command of the balance of his platoon. He directed the Platoon in its mopping up and clearing of a portion of Messines. We then moved the Platoon in accordance with the prearranged plan and dug in a splendid trench in front of Messines. He showed great bravery throughout. His force of character and good leadership were undoubtedly responsible for his platoon fulfilling its task.'
