Military Medal

'For conspicuous bravery in the field. On the morning of the 22nd October in the front line in front of Kron Prinz Farm it was noticed that a detached post of the Company to which this NCO belongs was being subjected to extremely heavy enemy shell fire. This NCO worked his way across a space of 300 yards to the detached post in full view of the enemy. Throughout his journey he encountered considerable fire from snipers and machine guns but pressed on and reached the post. He then retraced his steps and reported the condition of affairs in the post to his platoon Commander with the result that stops were immediately taken to make secure the right flank. On the same and subsequent nights he carried out valuable patrol work and at all times showed an absolute disregard to personal safety. He worked day and night without sparing himself and volunteered for all manner of work on hand and thereby set a splendid example to all ranks.'
