Croix de Guerre (Belgium) 'At Neuville on the night of 13/14th September 1918 an aerial bomb was dropped in his gun position killing 2 and wounding 5 men of his section. While bombs were still dropping in the vicinity he immediately assumed command of a party of men and dug out the buried and wounded victims, and probably saved the lives of two completely buried men. His cool resource and contempt of danger were most marked. His conduct under heavy fire on previous occasions has been an exemplary inspiration to all ranks.'
