Croix de Guerre (Belgium) 'For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty near Bancourt on 31st August, and 1st September. He was in charge of a Lewis gun Section. Exposed all the time to heavy machine gun fire, he showed great courage and leadership. He displayed a ready initiative in forming a defensive flank when our right was threatened.'
