Military Medal 'For continuous gallantry and devotion to duty in the field during operations extending from 17.8.18 to 14.9.18. This NCO who is in the Battalion Scouts has carried out patrol and observation work of great daring and of the utmost value to the Battalion. In front of Fork Wood his work was particularly skilful and as leader of small scouting patrols, at this stage of the operations, he penetrated the enemy lines and delivered most accurate reports on the enemy dispositions. There was not a task given him which regardless of risk he did not thoroughly and willingly perform, and it is in no small measure due to his personal endeavours and accurate reports that the Battalion was able to follow closely the smallest withdrawal of the enemy. No praise can be too high for this NCO's work.'
