Military Medal 'For conspicuous gallantry and skilful leadership during the attack on Passchendaele Ridge on 12th October 1917. He commanded a platoon which was detailed to protect the flank of his Brigade, by covering a gap between the troops of it and those of an adjoining Brigade. He showed conspicuous ability in carrying out this difficult task, under withering fire from enemy machine guns. His bravery was a
magnificent example to his men.'
