'Operations British front in the vicinity of the Foret de Mormal, 5th November 1918. For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty. During the above operations, Corporal Oxenbury's Company attacked. Coming under heavy machine gun fire, further advance was temporarily checked. This NCO took command of a Lewis gun section and by skilful manoeuvring brought fire to bear on the enemy's flank. He went back to his own section, and under cover of the Lewis gun, advanced to within rushing distance of the enemy machine gun, all the time under very heavy fire. Four of the section were hit on the way, but this gallant NCO still pushing on, finally rushed and captured the enemy gun, killing or wounding the crew. He still pushed on and brought back very valuable information to Company Headquarters.' Throughout the whole advance he worked with great skill and courage, thereby influencing those who came under him.'
