Military Medal 'At Ypres on the 22nd October 1917 this NCO displayed the most conspicuous bravery and devotion to duty whilst in charge of a patrol detailed to report on the enemy defence. When his patrol had been discovered and subjected to heavy machine gun fire by the enemy he disposed his men in shell holes and in spite of the enemy fire, personally patrolled over 200 yards of the enemy wire, returning with valuable information as to the enemy?s defences. Through the operations he displayed the finest qualities of leadership, and the utmost disregard for his
personal safety, and was splendid example to his comrade.'
