Military Medal 'For conspicuous gallantry. This NCO when his Company attacked and captured La Basse Ville on the 31st July was at first attached to Company Headquarters but on
No. 1 Platoon losing their Lewis gun Section Commander, he went forward and took it over. With skill and courage of the highest order he fought the gun throughout the operation and on the Platoon's consolidating in the north of La Basse Ville he pushed the gun forward and successfully brought it into action against an attacking enemy force.'
