Proceeded overseas to France, 20 March 1918; joined 3rd Bn, NZ Rifle Brigade, in the field, 27 March 1918, and posted to A Company.

Wounded in action, 21 August 1918 (gun shot wound, left thigh), and admitted to No 1 NZ Field Ambulance, and transferred to No 3 Casualty Clearing Station; to Ambulance Train No 22, 21 August 1918, and admitted to No 3 Stationary Hospital, Rouen, 22 August 1918; discharged to No 11 Convalescent Depot, Rouen, 25 August 1918; to Base Depot, Etaples, 26 October 1918.

Commenced return to New Zealand from London on board HT 'Chupra', 8 June 1919; disembarked New Zealand, 28 July 1919; discharged (termination of period of engagement), 25 August 1919.
