Military Medal

'Action: Switch Trench, South east of High Wood, 15th, 16th, 17th & 18th September 1916. A Battalion runner, who going on a message, was knocked over twice by high explosive shells. He continued on his errand under extremely heavy shell fire, delivered his message, and on his return to headquarters carried on with his work. The following day he had to be evacuated suffering from shell shock.'
