Military Medal 'For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty. At Auchonvillers on the Ancre on 25th March 1918, Corporal Osborne was in command of the flank section of a Company establishing an outpost line on a part of the front where the position was obscure. The flank was attacked by the enemy before establishing was complete. Corporal Osborne with his section covered the bending back of the
flank of the platoon and was directly responsible for preventing the cutting off of the platoon by the enemy. He worked his section so well, and set such an excellent example to his men, that his section, though under heavy fire, succeeded in
holding back a determined enemy for three hours until the pressure was relieved by counter attacking troops. His great coolness, initiative and gallantry were a fine inspiration to his men.'
