Medals

Distinguished Service Order

'For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty. During the period 25th February 1918 to 16th September 1918 Lieut-Colonel Alderman has been in command of 1st Battalion Auckland Regiment. His Battalion has been engaged in very heavy fighting during all this period and it is largely due to his great skill and leadership that the Battalion has come through the operations so successfully. During the short periods out of the line, Lieut-Colonel Alderman has personally supervised the training of his whole Battalion and it is largely sue to his great skill and energy that the Battalion has been brought up to the very high state of efficiency to which it now attains. His conduct under heavy fire has instilled in all ranks the greatest confidence, and his quick appreciation of the situation has on more than one occasion enabled the Battalion to push forward and secure ground at heavy cost to the enemy but with slight casualties only to his own men.'
