Proceeded overseas to France, 7 January 1917; joined 2nd Bn, NZ Rifle Brigade, in the field, 15 February 1917, and posted to D Company.

Wounded in action, 13 August 1917 (gun shot wound, back); admitted to No 3 NZ Field Ambulance, 14 August 1917; transferred to No 2 Australian Casualty Clearing station, 14 August 1917; to No 8 Stationary Hospital, 15 August 1917; to Base Depot, Etaples, 5 September 1917; rejoined Bn, 16 September 1917.

Killed in action, 12 October 1917.
