Military Medal 'Action in front of Belle Vue Spur, West of Passchendaele, 12 October 1917, and following days. For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty. This man by his marked devotion to duty and great personal bravery made himself invaluable throughout the whole of the operation. For three days he continually carried important despatches to the Companies in the Front Line, and brought back to Battalion Headquarters most valuable information gained by personal reconnaissance. His conduct throughout was exemplary, and his total disregard for his personal safety set a splendid example to everyone with whom he came in contact.'
