Distinguished Conduct Medal "For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty shown at SAIN KALEA on 6th August 1918. He was with a small party detailed to cover the retirement of a column and he was left behind to bring the transport out of a village. He and another NCO beat off a determined enemy attempt to capture the mules. Throughout the fight for fifteen miles he worked a Lewis Gun and rifle continuously."
