Military Medal 'For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty in the field near Briastre on 11th October 1918. This soldier was tireless in carrying out his duties as stretcher bearer under heavy machine gun and shell fire. He displayed fine skill and initiative as well
as cool courage which enabled all wounded men of his Company to be safely evacuated. Pte Nicholson has been untiring in his efforts to succour the wounded
at all times during the recent advance since August.'
