Military Medal 'For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty near Bapaume on 26th August 1918. His platoon being held up by heavy machine gun fire, Sergeant Nankivell led
forward a small party of men, and, although under heavy fire, succeeded in working around the flank and rushing the post, killing the garrison and capturing the gun. By his dash and enterprise Sergeant Nankivell enabled the platoon to advance and reach its objective.'
