Military Medal

'For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty near Hebuterne on the night of 7th/8th August 1918. Rifleman Murray was one of a patrol of one officer and four other ranks, which was suddenly engaged by 30 enemy. Our patrol was forced to retire, an on arriving in our trenches, the Officer was found to be missing. Rifleman Murray and Corporal Corsbie went out again to find the Officer who was found to be severely wounded. On being lifted up he screamed out, thus giving the alarm to the enemy. Rifleman Murray fought the enemy single-handed with bombs and bayonet until Corporal Corsbie had bandaged the Officer; then both men carried him back to our lines and prevented the enemy from gaining identification.'
