Mentioned in Despatches 'For consistent good work and devotion to duty. On 12th June 1917, east of Ploegsteert Wood, when his Officer became a casualty, he assumed command and
subsequently led his two mortars into action, handling them with skill and courage.'
Source: London Gazette Date: Military Medal 'For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty in the operations around Bapaume from 21st August to 13th September 1918. Although exposed to very heavy shell fire he kept his guns in action thus very materially aiding the work of the Infantry.
Sergeant Murray has taken part in all recent operations and has always succeeded in spite of heavy machine gun and shell fire in getting his guns and ammunition forward to protect our troops.'
