Proceeded overseas to France, 20 October 1916; joined 2nd Bn, Auckland Infantry Regiment, in the field, 5 November 1916. Admitted to No 1 Australian Casualty Clearing Station, 18 December 1916 (bronchitis); transferred to No 2 Australian General Hospital, Wimereux, 19 December 1916; to No 1 Convalescent Depot, Boulogne, 19 December 1916; to England, 4 January 1917, and admitted to No 1 NZ General Hospital, Brockenhurst, 6 January 1917; to NZ Convalescent Hospital, Hornchurch, 7 November 1917. Classified 'unfit' by Medical Board, 30 July 1917, and placed on NZ Roll.
