Meritorious Service Medal 'At Ypres from 16th to 23rd October 1917 this Battalion runner displayed the very greatest courage and the utmost devotion to duty. In the face of the heavy shell fire and under weather conditions of the utmost difficulty he proceeded every night to the front line with rations for his company. He allowed no danger or hardships to deter him and those under his command, and it was due to his great personal bravery and outstanding devotion to duty that this important work was successfully carried out. His great bravery and devotion to duty were a fine
example to others.'
