Military Medal 'Gallantry and devotion to duty during the operations near Bapaume. On 24th August this NCO worked by day and night under heavy artillery and machine gun fire on the line communications between his Brigade Forward Station and the
Headquarters of Battalions in the line. Although on one occasion he was buried by the explosion of a shell and was badly shaken he remained at his work and rendered the greatest assistance in maintaining the Brigade forward communications during an important period. On the succeeding days he continued his work very gallantly. Throughout the operations his complete disregard of danger and his dogged determination in the face of heavy hostile fire filled his comrades with confidence.'
