Military Medal 'For conspicuous gallantry in action near Havrincourt Wood on 12th September 1918. During the attack on 12th September Lance Corporal Mellor at great personal risk took forward a Lewis gun to a position where he was able to open fire on an enemy strong point. He was exposed to very heavy fire but he showed a complete disregard of danger and kept his gun in action until the post was rushed by another
party from a flank.'
