Bar to Distinguished Conduct Medal 'For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty. While in charge of an advanced platoon post under hurricane enemy bombardment, he commanded his men with great courage and ability, repulsing a strong enemy raiding party, and personally killing the officer. He set a magnificent example to his men.'
