Military Medal 'On 4th September 1918 near Havrincourt Wood. Gunner McMillan was detailed to accompany an Artillery Forward Observation Officer as telephonist. It was necessary to observe from right forward with the infantry and he assisted with the laying of the wire, subsequently manning the telephone in the open under shell and machine gun fire. Later in the day when the infantry attacked he brought his wire forward again although subjected to sniping fire by the enemy. His work throughout the day was of a very high standard and contributed greatly to the successful use of the guns against enemy Field guns and machine guns firing on our advancing troops.'
