Military Medal

'For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty. During the operations near Grevillers on 27th August 1918 Corporal McMillan was in command of a section and Stokes Mortar. With the utmost bravery he pushed forward with his section and established himself with the advanced troops. Our line was hold up by a hostile machine gun nest, but Corporal McMillan brought his gun into action and effectively silenced the machine guns. To do this it was necessary for him to make observations from a very exposed position and under heavy machine gun fire. It was largely due to the great valour of this NCO that the Infantry were enabled to take their objectives. His bravery and initiative were a magnificent example to his men.'
