Croix de Guerre (Belgium) 'Operations in vicinity of Metz en Couture on 13th September 1918. For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty in the carriage of despatches. After
telephone communication had been cut between Brigade and Battalion Headquarters, Trooper McMeeking on several different occasions with a disregard of all personal safety, carried messages over a country heavily bombardment by enemy high explosive and gas shells. By his courage and determination he
maintained communications at a most important time.'
