Military Cross 'For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty. During the attack he, under heavy shell and machine gun fire, kept in the closet touch with the situation in front by making personal reconnaissances. The skilful manner in which he placed his men, secured the safety of the left flank of the brigade, and his courage and energy were the means whereby his men were inspired to carry on until the position was
