Military Medal 'For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty in the field near Briastre on 11th October, 1918. This NCO showed splendid leadership and great bravery during the attack by his platoon on two enemy machine gun posts. He diverted his section to the point of greatest resistance and overcame the enemy after a determined bombing duel. In a later attack he carried out a difficult reconnaissance in the face of enemy machine gun fire, gaining touch with the flanks and bringing in valuable information as to the position of the enemy. His courage and fine leadership
contributed greatly to the success of the platoon in both attacks.'
