Mentioned in Despatches 'Operations opposite Warenton 13th, 14th and 15th June 1917. For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty. This Non Commissioned Officer showed great
initiative and leadership in commanding a party which was ordered to move to a flank during the attack on La Truie Farm on the night of 14th and 15th June 1917. Under heavy fire he rushed an enemy machine gun killing several of the crew and capturing prisoners.'

Officer did excellent work, displayed great bravery, and throughout set a fine example to the men. On the 29th September, when his Company was heavily shelled with gas shells which caused many casualties, he went around attending to the wounded and organising their removal until he was himself wounded.'
