'For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty during the consolidation of a Support Line South of Messines on 7th June, 1917. This Warrant Officer was in charge of a Platoon and during a long period of enemy intense shell fire when consolidation was extremely difficult, by his fine personal example and disregard of danger he kept his men digging in until they were reasonably safe and he himself was wounded.'
