Military Cross 'For conspicuous gallantry and good work, Foret de Mormal, 5th November 1918, when in command of the two leading platoons of his company. When the left
battalion was held up he pushed these platoons forward with great dash, thus allowing the neighbouring troops to go on. Later he encountered five enemy machine guns in succession, and after skillfully outmanoeuvring them he led the charge on each occasion, and so captured four machine guns and twenty six prisoners.'
