Proceeded overseas to France, 6 September 1917;joined 1st Bn, Otago Infantry Regiment, in the field, 5 October 1917, and posted to 10th Company. Reported missing, 12 October 1917. Court of Enquiry, 17 November 1917, concluded: 'No evidence available. Taking into consideration the circumstances of the attack of 12th Oct 1917 t is reasonable to suppose the ab/nd was Killed in Action in the attack on Belle Vue Spur 12th Oct 1917.'
