War service: Western Front Embarked Wellington, 26 June 1916; disembarked Devonport, England,22 August 1916; marched in to Auckland Company, 1st Training Bn, Sling Camp, 23 August 1916. Proceeded overseas to France, 19 September 1916; joined 1st Bn, Auckland Infantry Regiment, in the field, 3 October 1916. On leave to United Kingdom, 18 August 1917; rejoined Bn from leave, 5 September 1917. Found guilty, 12 September 1917, of overatying leave from midnight, 30 August, to 2 September 1917: awarded 7 days' Field Punishment No 2, and forfeited 3 days' pay under Royal Warrant. Attached to Australian Tunnellers, 11 December 1917. Admitted to No 1 Australian Field Ambulance, 25 December 1917 (pneumonia); transferred same day to 53rd Casualty Clearing Station; to No 2 Canadian General Hospital, Outrean, 31 December 1917; to England, 3 August 1918, and admitted same day to Southwark Military Hospital. Trasferred to No 1 NZ General Hospital, Brockenhurst, 29 January 1918; to NZ Convalescent Hospital, Hornchurch, 22 February 1918; discharged on leave, 15 March 1918, until 30 March 1918.
