War Service: England Embarked Wellington, 26 April 1917; disembarked Devonport, England, 20 July 1917, and marched in to Sling Camp (4th Reserve Bn, Otago Infantry Regiment); reverted to Temporary Corporal. Reverted to Private on failing to qualify, 20 August 1917. Found guilty, 7 January 1918, of overstaying leave from 11.30 pm, 5 January, until reporting back in camp, 11 pm, 6 January 1918: admonished, and forfeited 2 days' pay. Admitted to Military Hospital, Tidworth, 18 February 1918 (measles); placed on 'seriously ill' list, 18 February 1918; on 'dangerously ill' list, 26 February 1918.
