Medals

Military Medal

'For exceedingly good work as linesman in France, and particularly on the Somme front. During the operations of the 15/16th September and on succeeding days he was to a great extent responsible for the upkeep of the wires and communications, being out on the lines under all conditions of weather and shell fire practically for three days on end. During the whole time his conduct has been very gallant and his work magnificent, and it is difficult to pick out any special act which stands out in front of the rest. On the night of 16/17th September the Bazentin Valley was shelled steadily with gas shell, Shrapnel, and high explosive. All the lines to the Batteries cross this valley, and this Gunner was out the whole night long repairing the damage done to the lines.'
