Military Medal 'For conspicuous leadership and valour. This NCO of Wellington West Coast Company took part in the attack and capture of La Basse Ville on the 31st July.
During the attack the Platoon lost its Officer and all NCOs senior to McCully. McCully accordingly took command and with such conspicuous ability and fine
leadership that the Platoon carried out its allotted task and played its part in the successful capture of and the tenacious defence of the village.'
