Proceeded overseas to France, 20 December 1916; joined 1st Bn, Canterbury Infantry Regiment, in the field, 11 January 1917, and posted to 1st Company. Wounded in action, 7 June 1917 (gun shot wound); admitted to 77th Field Ambulance, 8 June 1917; transferred to No 1 South African General Hospital, Abbeville, 10 June 1917; to No 5 Convalescent Depot, Cayeux, 23 June 1917; to Base Depot, Etaples, 13 July 1917; rejoined 2nd Company, 1st Bn, Canterbury Infantry Regiment, in the field, 10 August 1917. Killed in action, 12 October 1917. Report by 2nd Anzac Burial Corps, 17 November 1917: 'Buried Passchendaele D.4.d.20.20+d.9. Central in and about this Region Bellevue.' Grave subsequently lost.
