Military Medal 'For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty. At Crevecouer on 30th September 1917 he was on the left flank. He crossed the bridge from the island by himself under heavy fire to try to find out the enemy machine gun positions, exposing himself to great danger with complete disregard of the risk. He set a fine example.'
