Military Medal 'On the day of 25th September 1916, during the attack upon the German positions, N.W. of Flers, Cpl McCaw was in charge of a Stokes gun. After the troops he was supporting had gained their objective this NCO gallantly reconnoitred forward and saw that on our left, troops of the Black Watch (1st Division) were held up by a machine gun strongly placed. His officer being with the other gun of the sub section at the time, Cpl McCaw on his own initiative brought his gun into action under heavy fire and silenced the enemy machine gun, thus helping the Black Watch to gain their objective.'
