War service: Western Front Embarked Wellington on board HMNZT 'Willochra', 9 June 1917; disembarked Devonport, England, 16 August 1917, and marched in to Sling Camp. Proceeded overseas to France, 23 September 1917; joined 2nd Bn, Otago Infantry Regiment, in the field, 8 October 1917, and posted to 14th Company. Detached to 2nd Field Company, NZ Engineers, 3 January 1918; rejoined Bn from detachment, 7 January 1918. Wounded in action, 9 April 1918 (shell wound skull), and admitted to No 1 NZ Field Ambulance. Transferred same day to No 3 Canadian Stationary Hospital, Doullens. Died of wounds, 9 April 1918. Medals: British War Medal, Victory Medal |
