Military Medal 'Operations: British Front east of Bapaume 2nd September 1918. For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty. When acting as Platoon Runner, Private McAlinden repeatedly carried messages under heavy machine gun and rifle fire. When the enemy counter attacked he at once offered to carry word back through a machine gun barrage, and though badly wounded on the return journey he struggled back and delivered an important message.'
