Military Medal 'For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty in the field. On the morning of 30th August 1918, when this Battalion was assembling behind Bancourt, this NCO displayed remarkable courage, while in charge of a party of signallers, laying a line to a forward position. He worked fearlessly among the enemy barrage and across an area continually swept by machine gun fire, and by his personal example and
daring enabled communications to be maintained. Time and again he repaired the line under heavy enemy shell fire, and his work proved invaluable throughout the course of the operations.'
