Military Medal 'For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty. On 29th September 1918, in an attack on Bon Avis Ridge, when this NCO's platoon Officer was wounded he immediately took over command and with great coolness and gallantry led his platoon to the attack. During the night 29th/30th September he volunteered as a patrol leader to go out and establish touch with the troops on the flank. This task incurred great risks as the enemy was in very close proximity but he was successful and in addition collected valuable information as to the enemy?s disposition. Throughout the operations this NCO displayed great gallantry and was ever ready for perilous tasks. He set a fine example to all with whom he came in contact.'
