Proceeded overseas to France, 30 October 1916; joined 2nd Bn, Canterbury Infantry Regiment, in the field, 22 November 1916, and relinquished appointment as Temporary Corporal.

Appointed Lance Corporal, 18 March 1917.

Wounded in action, 17 June 1917 (slight); remained at duty.

Detached to 2nd Army Signalling School, 16 July 1917; rejoined unit, in the field, 29 August 1917.
