'For gallantry and devotion to duty. Near Le Quesnoy on the night of the 3rd/4th November 1918 this NCO erected a road screen to hide the advance of troops to their jumping off line under heavy shell fire and in the morning repaired and maintained it under heavy shell fire until the troops had passed. He then made a reconnaissance of roads in the neighbourhood of Le Quesnoy though these roads were being machine gunned from the ramparts. He showed coolness, gallantry and skill of a high order.'
